Getting rid of Blady Grass

Also known as cutty grass, blady grass can be a nightmare to control and detrimental to pastures. When getting rid of it, it’s important to have the right herbicides or chemicals, but it’s also very important to use the right tools and machineries. That’s why it is essential to call a specialist, such as All Seasons Land Care, as we are renowned for our ability to get rid of blady grass in an efficient manner.

What Is Blady Grass?

Blady grass is a species in the genus Imperata, a perennial rhizomatous grass that can get between 2 and 10 feet tall. The leaves are wider near the base and then get narrower to the top, ending in a sharp point. The margins have fine teeth and are embedded with sharp crystals of silica.

The main vein has a colour that is lighter than the rest of the plant, and is usually near one side of the leaf. The underside is hairless, while the upper part is hairy near the base. The roots can go up to 1.2 meters deep, but in sandy soils they only go up to 0.4 meters.
